Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting today Wednesday with Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad Ahmad، in the presence of Dr. Ashraf Sobhy، Minister of Youth and Sports، official spokesman for the presidency Bassam Rady said.

At the outset of the meeting، President Al-Sisi welcomed the CAF head in Egypt، pointing out to football’s wide popularity on the continental and international levels because of its effective role in bringing people together and instilling sports spirit among them.

The president also pointed out to the government's plan to provide means of support to the Confederation of African Football in its headquarters in Cairo in order to be able to perfectly fulfill its duties.

The Spokesman added that President Al-Sisi stressed the government’s keenness to provide all requirements for the success of the 2019 African Nations Cup، scheduled to hosted by Egypt in June،، especially in light of Egypt's highly-equipped infrastructure.

For his part، Ahmed Ahmed praised Egypt's historic role as one of the founding countries of the Confederation of the African Football، adding that Egypt is the first country to win the African Cup of Nations in 1957، as well as the record holder of AFCON wins with seven tournaments.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced in January that Egypt won the bid to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations، which was withdrawn from Cameroon earlier.

The CAF had withdrawn the tournament from Cameroon last November because of the delay in the completion of infrastructure and sports facilities، in addition to concern about the security situation.

Accordingly، Egypt and South Africa submitted requests to host the tournament، which will include the participation of 24 national teams for the first time in its history. The CAF seconded Egypt.

The tournament is scheduled to run from June 15 to July 13.

Egypt will be organizing the Africa Cup of Nations for the fifth time، as it hosted the tournament in 1959، 1974، 1986 and 2006.
