President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received earlier today his South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir at Ittihadia presidential palace in Cairo.

The two presidents held a bilateral meeting followed by a wide-ranging session of talks between the two countries' delegations.

President Al-Sisi welcomed the South Sudanese president in Egypt، Ambassador Bassam Radi، official spokesman of the Presidency، said.

He added that Egypt’s keenness to support South Sudan in light of the brotherly and eternal relations between the two countries.

He also affirmed Egypt’s support for South Sudan’s government to achieve peace and stability.

On the bilateral relations، the president pointed out to Egypt's keenness to push forward bilateral cooperation in various fields، enhance Egyptian support for the development efforts in South Sudan، particularly by boosting the current several Egyptian projects or launching new projects and provide technical support and capacity building programs in a number of sectors such as education، health، agriculture and irrigation.

For his part، President Salva Kiir expressed his country's appreciation for the close cooperation relations with Egypt، which reflect the non-ending heritage between the two countries.


He praised the sincere efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to contribute to resolving the conflicts in South Sudan and providing humanitarian aids، in addition to supporting stability in the African continent، thus، it deserved to chair the African Union in 2019.


Kiir stressed that his current visit to Egypt comes as in light of distinguished relations between the two countries and to support bilateral cooperation ties at all levels.


The talks dealt with a number of the most important issues on the regional arena، especially the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa. The discussions reflected a mutual understanding between the two sides on ways to deal with these issues and enhance African capacities to face the challenges facing the continent as a whole، Rady added.


It was also agreed to periodically hold further bilateral meetings between senior officials of the two countries in order to enhance coordination on successive developments currently taking place in the two countries.
