Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations، Ambassador Mohamed Idris stressed the need to immediately stop، by all means، any support for terrorism.
These remarks came during Idris’s participation in the meeting of the Consultative Council of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT)، which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York yesterday evening.
The meeting of the Consultative Council was chaired by Saudi Arabia and includes many of leading countries in combating terrorism as members، including Egypt.
Idris stressed the importance of the role played by the UNCCT in carrying out projects to build the states’ capacities in the various fields related to fighting against terrorism، especially ending the finance of terrorism، preventing the use of the internet for terrorism purposes، countering the ideologies and rhetoric of terrorism and the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters.
Against the backdrop of some voluntary contributions provided by some countries to the United Nations in combating terrorism، the Egyptian Permanent Representative pointed out that there is a common goal of the international community in general and the United Nations in particular to ensure the eradication of terrorism and all forms of finance provided to it.
In this context، Idris said that providing voluntary aids to the United Nations، while not stopping supporting terrorism، is not sufficient to clean the hands of some countries that provide funds to terrorism.
