Sada El-Balad news website highlights Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker، Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as top newsmakers for Tuesday.

Key Points:

1- Shaker announces new hikes in electricity prices

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker announced Tuesday in a press conference new hikes in electricity prices.

According to Shaker، the overall increase reaches 14.9 percent، adding that such increase will be applied starting 1 July 2019.

2- Egypt eyes development of electricity’s transmission، distribution networks in 5 years

Shaker said Tuesday that the government is exerting huge efforts to complete the development works of the electricity sector، stressing that the state’s development plan of transmission and distribution networks will be finished within five years.

The minister also affirmed that the new hikes save the country from potential losses that might reach EGP 33.5 billion.

3- Indonesian President wins 55.5% of votes in elections

Indonesian President Joko Widodo won 55.5% of the votes in the presidential election and promised on Tuesday that he would be a leader for all of his country's people after official results from an April 17 election confirmed he had won a second five-year term in office.

4- Rouhani rejects talks، says Iran faces U.S. "economic war"

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani rejected any talks with the United States and called on Tuesday for the government to be given more power to run the sanctions-hit economy in an “economic war”.

President Donald Trump withdrew the United States a year ago from a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and global powers under which Tehran curbed its uranium enrichment capacity، a potential pathway to a nuclear bomb، and won sanctions relief in return.

Trump restored U.S. sanctions on Iran last year and has ratcheted them up this month، ordering all countries to halt imports of Iranian oil or face sanctions of their own.
