Liverpool have opted against a pursuit for Matthijs de Ligt، who has been a target for Europe's biggest clubs this summer، as the Daily Mail said.
The 19-year-old is one of Europe's most coveted players after starring for Ajax in their run to the Champions League semi-final.
Barcelona have long been linked with a £60million move for the defender، and appeared to be in a straight fight with Liverpool for his signature after Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain ended their interest citing costs on Friday. But Liverpool have decided to prioritise their transfer business elsewhere، with De Ligt widely expected to depart Ajax in the summer with the Nou Camp his likely destination.
The Catalan giants have already swooped for De Ligt's team-mate، Frenkie De Jong، with reports in Spain suggesting the La Liga leaders will return for a second swoop.
De Jong has already played seven times for Holland and made 45 appearances for Ajax last season، scoring five times.
Liverpool meanwhile will turn their focus to bringing in a new forward who can play across the front three، as well as finding cover at left-back and in goal should Simon Mignolet decide to move on.
With De Ligt's likely departure، Ajax have already made moves to replace him with Lisandro Martinez who is close to joining from Defensa y Justicia in Argentina for £5.8million.
The 21-year-old defender، who can play on the left or in the centre، arrived in Amsterdam for his medical on Monday morning ahead of signing a four year contract.
