Paris’ most famous landmark، the Eiffel Tower، celebrated its 130-year history on Wednesday with a dazzling laser show and snacks for 1،300 children below the monument، New York Daily News reported.
When night fell، the festivities kicked off with the dazzling 12-minute show that will run through Friday. Professional climbers clambered the 1،063-foot-tall edifice to secure the lights for the glitzy show.
“I’m in love with the Eiffel Tower. I’m even Eiffel Tower-dependent،” one exuberant، unidentified Parisian resident told French news network France 24. “I left Paris for two years to go to London، and when I didn’t see the Eiffel Tower، I missed it.”
Each year، approximately 6 million visitors ascend the tower every year. The wrought-iron tower was the brainchild of engineer Gustave Eiffel، who designed it for the 1889 world’s fair. At the time، the Eiffel Tower was the world’s tallest monument and is the second-tallest structure in France، trailing only the Millau Viaduct، a cable bridge that is only 41 feet higher.
The monument opened to the public for the first time on May 15، 1889، several days after its inauguration at the World’s Fair، according to The Associated Press.
