President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi issued a decree to extend the nationwide state of emergency for another three months، effective from April 25 2019، the official state gazette said on Thursday.
This is the eighth time the state of emergency is being renewed for three months since April 2017. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi first declared a three-month state of emergency in April 2017 after twin bomb attacks killed 45 people in northern Egypt.
The latest extension allows security forces to take necessary measures to confront the dangers and funding of terrorism and to safeguard security in all parts of the country،” read the decree، published in the official gazette.
Egypt launched a large-scale counter-terrorism campaign involving the police and the military in February to crush militants in the northern and central Sinai regions، parts of the Nile Delta and the country's Western Desert.
