Mercedes-Benz introduced its new-for-2020 GLS SUV at the New York show earlier this week. The big Benz is lighter، slightly larger and more luxurious than before، and it goes on sale before the end of the year، the Auto Week reports.

The redesigned GLS moves to Benz’s Modular High Architecture for crossovers and SUVs and gets new engines that will find their way to the S-Class: The GLS580 introduces a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 developing 483 hp and 516 lb-ft، and the GLS450 has a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six producing 362 hp and 369 lb-ft. Both engines have a 48-volt onboard electric boost system، adding up to 21 hp and 184 lb-ft، and both are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The endless list of driver assist goodies include lane-keeping assist and automated emergency braking، blind-spot assist، active stopgo assist، active emergency stop assist... the list goes on (and on).
Inside، you can choose the seven-seat arrangement or، for the first time، specify middle-row buckets for six seats total. An optional S-Class-esque executive rear-seat package adds a foldable center console، a tablet to control infotainment and heatedventilated seats. Five-zone climate control is also optional. As is becoming the Mercedes norm، two 12.3-inch screens make up the instrument cluster and infotainment، which can be controlled with voice، touchscreen، touchpad or dashsteering-wheel controls.

Lastly، there’s car-wash mode: With the touch of a button، car-wash mode raises the suspension (so the GLS’ underside gets extra clean)، the exterior mirrors fold in، the automatic wipers won't turn on، the windows and sunroof close، and the climate control switches to recirc mode. Car-wash mode shuts itself off when you hit 12 mph، after you’ve left the car wash.
