Egypt's president, Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi is set to inaugurate The Arab-European Summit in Sharm al-Sheikh city next Sunday February 24. More than one country has announced its participation in the two-day summit، which is considered an important step to push forward the Arab-European relations to a new level.
The two-day summit will bring together, for the first time، heads of the member states of the Arab League and the European Union. It will be co-chaired by President Sisi and President of European Council Donald Tusk، according to the EU’s statement.
On February 18، President al-Sisi stressed that Arab-European relations are historic, as the Arab world is the first partner for Europe، and this requires more dialogue not only in the economic level but also in other respects.
He added that stability and security in the Arab region is affected by stability and security in Europe and vice versa، therefore the instability in some Arab countries had a significant impact on Europe.
" We need more dialogue and coordination to find a platform to address different issues، Al Sisi assured noting:” Sharm el-Sheikh conference is an opportunity and an essential step that will be followed by other steps”.
Intensive Preparations ahead of Arab-European Summit
For his part، Egypt's Prime Minister, Dr. Mustafa Madbouli، said that government is closely following up all arrangements for the Arab-European Summit.
The summit is expected to witness a high-level presence of kings، heads of states and officials of various countries، reflecting Egypt's position in this period.
Madbouli pointed out that this summit represents a great opportunity to discuss many issues of common concern، foremost of which is combating terrorism، illegal immigration and efforts to achieve development.
EU Ambassador to Egypt statements
On the other hand، European Union (EU) Ambassador to Egypt، Ivan Surkos said that The Arab-European Summit meetings will be held at the level of heads of states and governments.
In press statements، Surkos added that EU representatives، including the presidents of the European Council، the European Commission and the member states of the Arab League will take part in The Conference.
Surkos considered the conference as an opportunity to enhance coordination and cooperation between the members of The EU and the Arab league (AL) in order to achieve stability and prosperity in both regions.
Trade، investment، immigration، security، in addition to latest developments in the region will be among the top priority issues to be discussed during the Summit، Surkos added.

A large number of Arab and European leaders will take part in the historic summit, including; Austrian Chancellor، Sebastian Kurz، German Chancellor، Angela Merkel، and Britain Prime Minister، Theresa May, Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, and others.
