Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will begin a two-day visit to Algeria on Wednesday at the invitation of Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel.
Algerian Forign Ministry said in a statement that the visit comes within the framework of the regular political dialogue and permanent consultation between the two countries since the signing of the strategic partnership statement on April 2، 2001 following a state visit by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to Russia.
The visit comes in the context of the ongoing development of political dialogue and cooperation between the two countries، the statement said، adding that the visit also comes days before the convening of the ninth session of the Joint Algerian-Russian Economic Commission scheduled from 28 to 30 January in Moscow.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry said that the visit would allow a comprehensive study of the status and prospects of bilateral relations. It would also allow for a broad exchange of views on major regional and international issues، the statement said.
Algeria pointed out that the talks of the two sides during the visit will discuss the situation in Libya and recent developments related to this file، Mali and Syria and the development of the Western Sahara.
