Ismaily legend and former Egypt international Hosny Abd Rabo has announced he has retired from football، and thanked Ismaily and Egypt fans for supporting him throughout his career، Kingfut news website reported.
Abd Rabo spent the 17 years of his career at Ismaily، coming up from the club’s youth sector. He made over 250 appearances for the Yellow Dragons، scoring 68 goals.
During his stay at Ismaily، the veteran midfielder had few loan spells in France and Saudi Arabia، playing for French side RC Strasbourg Alsace، Al Ahli Dubai Club، Ittihad Jeddah، and Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia.
“I thank Ismaily fans on their support throughout my career. It’s a very tough decision and it’s hard to take، but now I announce hanging my boots. And I thank all Egypt fans who support me،” Abd Rabo said on Facebook.
“I took my decision last season and I was supposed to announce it last summer. But I decided to retract my decision for the tough situation the club was going through.
“Last season I delivered very good performances made me close to a return to Egypt، and I could have retired in better circumstances.
“Choosing the right time was very important. Ismaily is a big club and I endured massive pressure in the last period for it.”
“I wished to achieve a title for you [fans] and for myself. But the faithfulness and affection I received are among the best things I live with،” he added.
On the international level، Hosny Abd Rabo has represented the Pharaohs in 104 games، making his debut in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in March 2014، and managed to score 16 international goals.
The 34-year-old was a key part of the Egypt team that lifted two AFCONs in 2008 and 2010، playing every game in the two tournaments.
He also represented the national team in the 2009 Confederations Cup، but his last appearance came in October 2014 during a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
Abd Rabo also lifted the 2003 U20 AFCON with Egypt، however، he has never won a club trophy during his long career at Ismaily.
