Antiquities Minister، Dr. Khaled El-Anany، Minister said that the ministry is in contact with the global auction halls to restore any Egyptian artifacts abroad.
He pointed out that the ministry has restored artifacts from 5 countries in 2018 and in 2015، the ministry restored other antiquities from Israel.
Noteworthy، The Ministry of Antiquities received a stone-carved artifact from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which portrays King Amenhotep I cartouche which was displayed in the open museum at the Karnak temple.
It was previously stolen and smuggled outside of Egypt illegally.
Shaaban Abdul Gawad the general supervisor of the retrieved Antiquities department explained that the Ministry of Antiquities succeeded in following up on the websites of the global auction halls and monitored the ancient piece، which was displayed at one of the auction halls in London.
The ministry immediately took all necessary procedures to retrieve the artifact and stop its sale.
Abdul Gawad pointed out to the effective cooperation between the Ministry of Antiquities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to restore the smuggled artifact، in addition to the cooperation between the British authorities and the Egyptian Embassy in London.
The restored artifact has been received by the Egyptian Embassy in London in September 2018.
