The midengine 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette will not be shown at the 2019 Detroit auto show next month، according to GM Authority، which is citing anonymous sources buried deep within Chevrolet due to electrical problems. This could delay the next American barn burner by six months، as the Car News said.
GM Authority is saying the C8’s electrical system can’t handle the load. This makes a little bit of sense if the next Corvette is a hybrid، which is a possibility. It also makes sense if the supercar is using a 48-volt primary electrical system.
Engineers need to revamp the system، which could involve an electric motor on the front axle، a la Acura NSX. GMA says we should still expect to see the car in 2020.
Unless، of course، this is just subterfuge from the Bowtie as it tries to take the last winter NAIAS by storm with a show winner. When the C7 Stingray dropped، remember، that’s all anyone could talk about for the entire press preview week.
