Al-Ghad Space Channel has reviewed a report on illiteracy rate among population of the states in the Arab world. The report was authored by the Arab Organization for Education، Culture and Science. It reveals that the illiteracy rate exceeded 20% in among Arabs. This means that more than 70 million people in the Arab world neither read nor write.
Mauritania tops the most illiterate Arab country with 48% of her population. Yemen ranks second in terms of illiteracy prevalence by 30%. In Morocco that rate reaches 28% while 24% was illiteracy in Egypt and Sudan. The percentage of illiteracy in Iraq was 20% and 14% was illiteracy in Syria. The report showed that illiteracy in Palestine is only 3%
