Medium traffic congestion prevailed Thursday on major streets، main roads and squares of Cairo، amid an intensified presence of traffic policemen to prevent any traffic jam and accident as well.
Noteworthy، deadly road accidents occur on a near-daily basis in Egypt.
Egypt has the highest rate of road accidents and related deaths in the Middle East، with an average of 12،000 people killed annually، according to the World Health Organization.
At least 12،295 were reported dead in road traffic fatalities during 2007، 70% males، 30% females، while 154،000 were reported injured in road traffic non-fatalities، within the same year، according to the official statistics agency.
Meanwhile، At least 14،548 road accidents took place in Egypt in 2015.
Egypt loses about 12،000 lives due to road traffic crashes every year. It has a road traffic fatality rate of 42 deaths per 100،000 population. The majority (48%) of those killed are passengers of four-wheelers although pedestrians also constitute a significant proportion (20%) of these fatalities.
