Libyan security sources circulated First photos of the Egyptian terrorist، Hesham Ashmawy، who was arrested today، Monday by Libyan National Army (LNA) in the city of Derna، eastern Libya during his interrogation.
The Egyptian government has called for the extradition of its most wanted Egyptian terrorist، Hisham al-Ashmawy، after he was arrested by eastern Libyan forces on Monday، Al-Arabiya TV Channel reported.
Spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA)، Brigadier General Ahmad al-Musmari، announced on Monday that the forces of the National Army managed to arrest Egyptian terrorist Hisham Ashmawi، in the city of Derna، eastern Libya.
Sky News Arabia reported that Ashmawi was arrested in a security operation today at dawn.
Media Office of the General Command of the Libyan National Army also announced in a statement the arrest of Hisham Ashmawi.
A military operation carried out in the city of Derna early on Monday morning to arrest a major Egyptian terrorist element، the statement added.
Egyptian authorities say Ashmawy heads the Ansar al-Islam network، which claimed responsibility for a deadly desert ambush.
Egyptian officials also accuse the network، which they link to al-Qaeda، of an assassination attempt on a former interior minister in 2013.
Ashmawy's network has mounted a recruiting campaign among former officers in recent years and is seen as more dangerous than militants operating in Egypt's Sinai peninsula، according to Egyptian intelligence and security sources.
